where the wolves play and people should keep away...

Ix - Adventure
It's still at least an hour or so before the party's supposed to start. Good thing too, since Ix is still making her way over with the main course. Wolfen form just doesn't cut it for hunting deer - not hunting solo, anyways, and as excited as the pack is, someone'd probably end up taking a bite out of the buck she got and by the time they got back to the clearing, there'd just be the leftover bits that no one ever wanted to eat anyways. And bear form, as strong as it might be, isn't all that fast. Especially when trying to keep a deer carcass on one's back.

The food is set out on a group of folding tables. The drinks are in coolers, and the bonfire won't be lit until everyone's arrived, although the cookfire manages to ignite as Ix lumbers into view.

It did rain the day before, but it was fairly light and Ix 'cheated' a bit. The ground is dry (near the center of the clearing, anyways; further out, it gets a bit soggy) and there isn't much that still needs to be set up.
8th-Feb-2006 07:00 am (UTC)
On the other side of the house, Tyler has set up a makeshift archery range; targets everywhere! If anyone asks, he’ll just say it is for the party but truth be told, he has grown accustomed to daily practice and he’s quite good—not great but proficient

First target is hit just outside the bull’s-eye. Good but could do better. He draws another, aims and releases, this time hitting dead on and he just keeps on, expending energy. His part in helping the party along is done and if Ix needs anything, she will call out to him.

Looking up into the house’s upstairs bedroom window, he sees two children’s hands waving and then the faces of Maya and Brenna-Rose held up by the nannies. He grins before resuming practice. Tyler wonders if this get-together will be like the last.

Who knows, he is good to go. Now if he can just make a few more targets.

Another chest gets hauled down the path and set in the clearing. It's mostly filled with sweets so Creed sees to putting it in slightly out of the way spot. It's got a twist lock on it to keep the kids out of it until they've put some meat and a few bits of veggie in their stomachs.

By offering to help Ix get the meat strung up over the fire he gets close enough to snatch a kiss from the corner of her mouth. "Thank you o' mighty hunter. You take such good care of us." The thrum of an arrow makes Creed's head cock to one side. "Between you and Durden... we could all get lazy and fat... if hunting wasn't so much fun... and if we didn't have a horde of wild children to chase through the underbrush."

At the edge of the clearing a couple of the guys appear toting out furs and blankets to make nests for curling up in later in the evening.
9th-Feb-2006 04:04 am (UTC)
Ix laughs softly, "And if you didn't have the metabolisms of caffine-addled jackrabbits, shadow-fur."

It's tempting to speed up the process of getting the meat to cook...but it won't taste quite right if she uses magic to speed things along; she knows this. Magic's useful for many, many things...but cooking isn't one of them.

She licks at the corner of his mouth in return, glancing over at Tyler and his archery practice, "Huh. He's been having fun with that since he got back."
8th-Feb-2006 10:38 pm (UTC)
Buddy appears from another direction, carrying a heavy box. "Booze is here," he barks as a warning, then goes back to take the other boxes from the car. Everything is bottled, so none of the little ones will manage to open one on their own. Well, unless they cheat.
9th-Feb-2006 04:07 am (UTC)
They'll cheat. They always do when something new turns up; they're as curious as a pride of kittens - with the dubious advantage of knowing how to get things open with more than just fingers.

Fortunately for the safety of the littles, there'll be not only Ix, Tyler, and Creed watching, but (hopefully) the rest of the pack as well - so even if one of the kids manages to get a bottle of beer open, someone should spot it and take it away before they can try drinking it.
12th-Feb-2006 12:15 am (UTC)
Right. Wards are set, food and drinks are here, everything else is ready....time to go get the kids, probably.

Ix stretches and then heads towards her house, calling over to Tyler and Buddy, "Hey, I'm gonna go get the kids."
12th-Feb-2006 12:18 am (UTC)
He sees Linda's glance and gives Buddy a "you're on your own with that comment" sorta look and then gives Linda and Ix a cheeky grin, waving to Ix as she takes off for the kids.
12th-Feb-2006 06:32 am (UTC)
Quietly stepping from the trees, Clayton has chosen light clothing, expecting that before the evening is done he will change. He sniffs the air, seeking the one - Tyler, it was - who invited him here.

He doesn't see Tyler immediately but there are unmistakable signs of his presence in the scents that overlay this place. As he looks around himself, he can tell that this pack is far bigger than his own since the mutts murdered half of them. It would be very good to have them as allies.

Stepping out into the clearing, he assumes a respecful stance and awaits the inevitable greeting from a strange pack.
12th-Feb-2006 08:55 pm (UTC)
Coming back from the house with Kalman hooked in one arm, Creed comes to a stop just out of easy reach of their guest. His body is angled so his son is decently shielded away.

"Clayton," Creed nods. "We're just throwing everything together. Everyone will be wandering along soon enough." Kaycee and Luke are technically the reason for the gathering, but it's always good to have multiple reasons for a party.

"This is Kalman, one of my sons." The child is lifted in illustration. "Come on in. I'll introduce you around." Tyler's free hand points. "Tyler Durden... Buddy Hooks. Buddy's my second." Blonde, heavily pregnant Linda is pointed out next. "That's Linda Davis, Buddy's mate." There's no explanation of what Durden is. That's story too long to be encapsulated in a word or three.
15th-Feb-2006 09:36 pm (UTC)
Sitting cross-legged on the ground with Brenna Rose in his lap, Tyler has a cloth kiddy picture book, entertaining her with nonsensical stories that have nothing to do with the actual pictures. Doesn't matter, she's giggling anyway and that's all that matters.

*In kind of a mellow mood today guys, send the little rugrats this way when they get too much. I have more practice with the toy throwing.* He looks up to Ix and Creed and then the rest, nodding to the newcomer .
16th-Feb-2006 12:05 pm (UTC)
If at first you don't succeed right? For once maybe she could feel like she wasn't an outcast, these people were not her pack but maybe she could make friends, people like her. She idnd't even know where she had heard about this party, and she really hoped they didn't mind her going, but sometimes you just got lonely.

She came in so her scent carried on the breeze, no need to scare them right and think she was some kind of mutt, they would know she was coming in this way for a reason.

The case of beer clinked in her hand, she didn't know if there was drinks here, or if they were allowed, but they could always take them home, and beer, usually a good conversation starter right?

Coming up to the clearning she stopped on the edge as she heard voices, truely not sure if she would be welcome. Well, they could only treat her like a mutt right and try and kill her.
17th-Feb-2006 05:20 am (UTC)
Ix looks up at the clink of beer bottles. The beer that Buddy hauled in is all in the coolers or on the table, so it's not that...which means that someone brought another case of beer.

The scent is an unknown one, and she frowns, sending to Creed, *Who's she? Is she another ambassador, or do we have a party crasher?*
Not waiting for an answer, Phoenix positions herself between the kids and this strange woman, sending quickly to Tyler, *Stranger, at the edge of the clearing.*
20th-Feb-2006 03:34 pm (UTC)
Taking charge, Creed pads across the divide between where Elena is hesitating and the wider clearing.

"Elena, it was, yes?" Tyler's attention flicks between their expected guest and the new arrival. The two of them are giving the impression they know one another, which isn't really a surprise. There aren't THAT many werewolves around here.

The beer Elena dropped is considered, picked up and thrust back at her. If she's going to approach, it's going to be with her hands full so she's at just that slight disadvantage. "I suppose our festive spirit is traveling up and down the lines, drawing attention. If you'd like to come introduce yourself to Phoenix..." Creed suggests in a tone that indicates the polite gesture is obligatory.
20th-Feb-2006 04:52 pm (UTC)
She suddenly looked down at the beer being thrust back in her hand, Creed and Clayton, before settling back on Creed. 'I'm sorry, I just.' She knew that these were probably like her own pack, not that they were really her's any more, would see a stray as a mutt, a threat.

She wanted to leave but she knew that would make it seem like she had something to hide. Her arms wrapped around the beer and she pulled it close to her chest. 'Of course,' and as she had no idea who Phoenix was, she would have to wait for him to show her.
23rd-Feb-2006 12:09 am (UTC)
Brett had been late leaving the garage, and the traffic had been particularly nasty, so by the time they pulled up at Linda's house it was getting on. Kaycee thanked Brett before heading inside with her bag, leaving it in the room she usually used when staying out with the pack.

There was no-one in the house, Kaycee confirming that by calling out to Linda and the silence being the only response. Deciding to keep her coat on, the evenings still very cold, she walked out onto the porch and inhaled deeply. While totally different from her own 'country' it was always good to be back here, and able to breath in the clear, clean air. With her hands pushed into her pockets but the coat flapping open as she walked, she headed down toward where she could see the fire was this time, toward Ix and Tyler Durden's home, wondering about this young man she was finally going to meet, and how similar he might be to his sister.
23rd-Feb-2006 11:16 pm (UTC)
It's a female thing, most of the guys decide. Brett has already showed up, tossed off the top layer of his gear, and is half way through a bottle of beer before Kaycee pads down the path to where everyone is gathering. Her arrival is welcome in more ways than one. Most noticeable is the way the younger males lay off on their not-quite-discreet-enough inspection of Elena and flip focus to the Shaman.

Creed doesn't immediately withdraw from Ix's side, but he does toss a dazzling grin in Kaycee's direction. "All these beautiful women..." Tyler looks from Kaycee to Linda to Elena and back to Ix. "It's like the very stars in the sky have come down to decorate our humble forest."
26th-Feb-2006 02:22 am (UTC)
Luke drives slowly down the dirt road, heading towards the houses once he clears the entrance lane. He was looking forward to meeting Creed's shaman. He could have lived without doing it in such a public setting though. He has no desire to meet the mutts too.

Parking he gets out and pockets his keys, walking towards the sound and smells of a party. He holds back just watching the goings on and thinking it might be one hell of a long night.
26th-Feb-2006 02:48 am (UTC)
From where she's sitting with Durdenand the children, Kaycee's looking around the clearing. Talking about the kids, and his travels, she's watching the different colours around those who are new in particular, and looks a little puzzled when a new shading appears at the edge of the light. A figure can be seen in it, but they are outside the rim of the light from the fire and torches.

"There's another new guest," she tells Durden, glancing across at Creed. "Wonder if this is the one we were expecting."
27th-Feb-2006 07:31 pm (UTC)
Quickly, everyone is considered. The boys have stopped staring at Elena, which should calm Clayton down. Buddy hit the balance of being polite without fawning over the strange woman so Linda is happy enough. The kids climbing over Kaycee and Durden should distract the kids as well as the adults involved for a few moments. Ix's shoulders don't seem as tight as they were when Clayton and Elena first appeared. Creed can afford to turn his attention on dear, little Luke for a time.

"Lucas, you're very nearly tardy," Creed calls out, taking a few steps in that direction. "You must not move as quickly when Presley isn't driving." Tyler crooks a finger. "Don't linger in the shadows. You're quite the point of this little gathering. Come show yourself off. Don't worry. Everyone is on their best behavior tonight... only the kids are biting... at the moment." Teeth bare is a too-sweet smile.
28th-Feb-2006 03:07 am (UTC)
"Yeah right Tyler. Like you've ever needed an excuse to throw a party?"

Luke stood in the shadows a moment or two longer, sizing up the assembled group before stepping forward, slowly scanning the group one more time before focusing on Tyler, "Besides it doesn't exactly look like you were waiting for little ole me."

Luke smirked and looked around him again, trying to pick out the Shaman amongst the group without being too obvious.
28th-Feb-2006 11:22 pm (UTC)
She excused herself from Buddy and moved to stand on her own looking out into the dark trees. The sound of him laughing turned her stomach and she wanted to run, hating herself for the feeling. The more that she was there, the more convinced she was that she shouldn't have crashed this party. These people were a pack, a family and she didn't belong here.

6th-Mar-2006 06:23 pm (UTC) - introductions all around
Baird is scooped up as Creed gestures Luke to come closer into the ring of light and company. A few more steps and Tyler can catch hold of the back of Kalman's shirt and scoop him up too.

"Boys and girls..." Creed raises his voice. "We've a wandering cousin visiting as well as these very enchanting..." Elena is gifted with an appraising look, "...Ambassadors from another branch of the family. Lucas... meet Elena and Clayton. Clayton, Elena... this is Lucas Cates. He's from our home pack." He has to gesture with his chin since his arms are full.

Tyler's next movement has him a little nervous on the inside, but he tries his best not to give away that emotion. Moving deliberately, Creed cross the space, raises an arm and pushes Kalman toward Elena so she has to take the 10-month old boy from him. He wouldn't dare push Baird into the arms of an unknown, Ix would skin him, but Kalman's mother isn't here and sometimes grand gestures are needed. Elena looks too close too flight, and Tyler doesn't want to see a female werewolf slip away from his sphere of influence so easily. "Elena, meet Kalman."

Creed's gaze shifts. "In other joyous news, the second best Tyler... Durden... is home for a while." He will NOT glance nervously back at Elena and Kalman. That would be a show of weakness but, oh fuck, Buddy had better be watching the woman. "And if one other thing were needed to make this evening a festival... our most beauteous Shaman is gracing us with her presence." A slight bow indicates who he's speaking about. "Kaycee... you met Clayton... but Elena and Luke are new."

Creed surrenders to the need to reach back and ruffle the down of Kalman's hair to reassure himself. "Kaycee is a wonderful singer as well as Mother Moon's emissary. Perhaps she'll gift us with a song later... but for now... RIPLEY, put on some music. Dancing is a good way to get to know one another."
6th-Mar-2006 06:35 pm (UTC) - Re: introductions all around
Elna was about to say something when she finds a child in her arms. She looks to Creed for a moment, then down at the child and a soft smile appears on her face and she shifts the child, settling him against her side.

'Hello little one,' she whispered softly, lifting him up and rubbing her nose against his. She took a breath, breathing in his scent. There was something so different about the scent of a child and she couldn't help but glance at Clayton for a moment. As the child gurgled in her arms she looked down at him once more before moving away from Creed and sitting down at one of the tables, holding the child so he was stood up on her thighs. 'You are a handsome little thing aren't you.'

Oh, well done. Creed had introduced all the new faces, so everyone could stop whispering and pretending not be looking with intense curiosity at the strangers. Passing Kalman to the shewolf is one of those political things that Buddy would never be good at. He knows what to do, though, and a rushed but strong vibe of 'no worries, I'm on it' is mentally sent to Creed. With yet another beer in his hands, Buddy quietly follows Elena and Clayton's movements. Something going on with these two. Pity. She's really something to look at. She seems to be good with Kalman, too, but it doesn't mean Buddy can relax, not completely.
Everyone else is more at ease, now, so when Ripley gets the music going, a few bodies start to dance around the fire. Buddy starts following the music, too, but slowly, and still close enough and carefully enough guarding Kalman's safety.
7th-Mar-2006 04:24 am (UTC)
Ix scoops Tyler Evan up and starts to dance with him, following the music and singing softly to him as she moves.
7th-Mar-2006 02:42 pm (UTC)
Frightfully pleased with himself, Creed jogs Baird on his hip and takes the moment to appreciate the situation around the growing fire. There's nothing like flames to paint familiar bodies and faces into something wild and beautiful. The light snakes around Ix's form, highlighting tantalizing curves and burnishing her hair. Shadows flicker across Kaycee and Durden, drawing in the eye. Creed has to pause over the sight, admiring cheekbones and the movement of finely sculpted lips. Kaycee's dark hair is especially seductive, a living shadow all on it's own. When Creed's gaze is ready to move on it's to admire Lucas, who's just as beautiful as his sister in his own fashion. Elena and Clayton rate a once over as well. They're interesting, well worth further exploration... both of them. *So many treats. It's such a wonderful night.* The mental musing isn't private. Anyone who's listening will pick up the tone of pleasure Creed is feeling. A smile is shot in Buddy's direction with a sharper, more precise sensation of affection. Damn, but Tyler is lucky to have this man standing with him.
8th-Mar-2006 12:03 am (UTC)
As he approaches Kaycee Luke picks up on Tyler's mood and thought, the sentiment whispering over his bones. The amplification of the gifts still being so new the musing makes him stop mid step and shoot Tyler a confused look.

He gives himself a quick shake and continues on to his goal, stopping as he reaches the beautiful shaman, his hand extending, an easy smile forming on his face, "It's nice to meet you Kaycee."
9th-Mar-2006 03:36 am (UTC)
Clayton and Elena's exchange of urgent whispers is a little disturbing, but she's handling Kalman tenderly enough and Buddy is watching. Buddy is always watching. A special smile is turned on Creed's beta.

Tyler isn't certain if Kaycee and Luke's conversation is any safer, but it has to happen. That was, after all the main point of this evening, to introduce baby-Cates to Kaycee. Maybe the Shaman can get something out of him that the pack needs to know about. Certainly Kaycee has a way of drawing stories out of Tyler and the rest of this extended family with her soft voice and ability to listen.

Trusting fate and mother moon for a time, Creed pads over to the circle that's started around the fire. Ix isn't too fast, holding Tyler Evan as she his. That boys a growing concern. Creed should be able to slip close enough to steal a few kisses between twirls and steps.
9th-Mar-2006 04:16 am (UTC)
Ix steals a few kisses back, grinning at Creed when they spin out of range. Mindful of the ley lines - and the new 'ears' and little 'ears' listening tonight - she whispers to him, *Wanna sneak off to raise our voices early?*

She adds, verbally, "Or would you rather have something to eat, when we're done dancing? Venison should be about ready..."
9th-Mar-2006 01:51 pm (UTC)
She held onto Kalman like he was her lifeline and as they danced by the fire she rubbed her nose against his softly. 'I'm sorry little one,' she whispered softly, 'That should not have happened, but it makes me so mad that he does not understand how I felt.'

She turned around with the child, a smile creeping onto her features, 'Enough of that, we should at least try and have some fun.' Carefully she tossed him a little way into the air before catching him.
10th-Mar-2006 12:37 am (UTC)
It's not poaching. Not when the dance is communal. Ripley's reasoning seems sound, at least in his own mind. A quick slide up near Elena, a brush of a hand down her waistline to turn her slightly in place, and a smile that's half for her and half for the way Kalman is happily bubbling... that's not poaching, not really.

He'll back off quick enough if the woman, Creed or Buddy snarls over the tentative show of attention.
10th-Mar-2006 09:59 pm (UTC)
Little Tyler Evan's stomach isn't he only one that's starting to growl. If Phoenix is willing to break out of the circle to feed one of her older kids, Creed's happy enough to follow along. Baird is swung in a circle and dropped down near Durden, who gets a kiss on the forehead while Creed is close by. Maya is scooped up in trade. Odds are if Tyler Evan is hungry, so is his twin.

Creed's free hand drifts as he move through the area. Linda's hair is touched. Buddy's bicep is stroked. Joshua gets a brushing kiss on the cheek when Creed passes close enough to him. Phoenix's ass gets a squeeze when she slows down. His gaze moves as well. Where on earth did Luke and Kaycee drift off too? Feeling outward with his senses, Creed hits a wall that feels like Kaycee, which pushes a pout onto his lips for a moment. That definitely bears investigating as soon as the kids are contented.
11th-Mar-2006 04:10 am (UTC)
Creed gets a kiss on the pouty lower lip and then Ix settles down near Tyler to feed the kids.

And then, at once all too soon and not soon enough, it's time for the kids to go to bed.
11th-Mar-2006 01:28 am (UTC)
OOC: Just moving Kaycee and Luke's convo to keep things in line. :) Ref this thread: Kaycee and Luke

The look on Luke's face at Kaycee's question betrayed all his feelings. He stood up again, shaking his head vehemently, "Ruby wouldn't have disappeared on me. I know it as sure as I'm standing here. Something happened to her!"

A harsh sigh left him as he tried to get his emotions under control. It wasn't working. He walked away from Kaycee, rolling his shoulder and taking a few more deep breaths before turning back to her. "Look I'm sorry I lost it just then and I don't you don't know Ruby and have no reason to believe me, but I'm telling you. She wouldn't just disappear. Something is really wrong."
11th-Mar-2006 02:03 am (UTC)
Kaycee inhaled softly as Luke paced. His distress at not hearing from Ruby was clear not only to her but to anyone who happened to be paying attention.

"What if she was unable to contact you, for your own safety?" she asked him quietly.
13th-Mar-2006 03:39 pm (UTC)
Ix's children are ready for bed.

Selene has been in an odd mood for a while now. He doesn't dare send Kalman with Phoenix's children, but there are adults enough around that a single child can be passed among them without difficulty. Phoenix's five are all kissed and sent on their way, however.

The departure of the children alters the situation significantly. The music is changed to something with a more throbbing tempo. The fire is high, so shirts and shoes are no hardship to discard. Bare feet should be touching the ground, especially this late in the moon's crossing. Bare skin should be exposed to the sky.
14th-Mar-2006 09:58 am (UTC)
There's the barest change in the air and then they're there.

Mike looks around for Ix.
14th-Mar-2006 04:11 pm (UTC)
Ix looks up as Mike appears, *Mike!* She darts over and hugs Mike, "'S good t' see you. Was wondering when you'd get here."
